Mary Ellen is out of the hospital and resting in reasonable comfort with her beloved dog Smudge by her side. Wonderful friends from work have sent a selection of delicious foods. I'm guarding her rest. I go home tomorrow. -Kathleen
Single Mom to 4 1/2 year old daughter. I am a single Mom by choice and my daughter was donor concieved after about a year of fertility treatment. I was trying for another and had another year of unsuccessful fertility treatment. My last IVF was June of 2009. Shortly after that I felt something suspicious in my right breast. I had it checked out and it was breast cancer. It was stage one, grade three invasive ductal carcinoma. This blog chronicles the whole experience from the start. It includes diagnosis, surgery, reconstruction, reconstruction failure, chemotherapy, Penguin Cold Cap therapy to save hair, herceptin and trying to keep life as normal as possible while enduring all the treatment. If you are reading this because you are about to embark on this journey, I wish you strength in your fight.
I am please to say that I have finished all my cancer treatment. I was able to keep my hair throughout the chemotherapy with the use of the Penguin Cold Caps.
I had baby #2 with the help of a gestational carrier. He was born at 26 weeks and spent 106 days in the NICU. He is profoundly deaf and we are hoping he can get cochlear implants.
